Your rights as a patient (Examinations)

As a patient, you are entitled to a medical examination and a diagnosis within 30 days, if this is professionally possible.

If a hospital in the Central Denmark Region or one of the private hospitals with which the Central Denmark Region works, cannot give you a medical examination and a diagnosis within 30 days, you are free to choose a private hospital (extended free choice of hospital).

If a diagnosis is not possible within a month, the hospital must present you with a plan.

Before you can choose a private hospital, there must be an examination agreement in place between the regions and the private hospital. And the waiting time for the examination must not exceed the waiting time at the Central Denmark Region’s hospitals or the private hospitals with which we work.

The region in which you live is responsible for examining your condition quickly. Therefore, if you choose to attend a hospital in another region, you cannot be sure that your condition will be examined within 30 days.

As a patient, you are basically free to choose from any of the public hospitals throughout Denmark. However, a hospital department may refuse patients if that department has significantly longer waiting times for the treatment in question than other similar departments.

If you wish to exercise your free choice of another public hospital, please contact the department/hospital on the telephone number you were given in your appointment letter.

If it is necessary to refer you to another hospital to allow examination of your condition within 30 days, you are entitled to a transport or mileage allowance. You must of course still fulfill the general conditions. You can read more in Danish at www.befordring.rm.dk.

If no hospitals can give you a medical examination and a diagnosis within 30 days, and if you choose a private hospital (extended free choice of hospital), then, generally speaking, you must make your own way to and from the hospital.

Fill in the form at www.omvis.rm.dk if you need advice or guidance on your rights as a patient.

If you cannot fill in the form, you may call +45 7841 0444 for help. Weekdays from 9.00-13.00.
